Great Pyramid Of Giza (CAIRO / EGYPT)

Great Pyramid of Giza , also called Great Pyramid and Great Pyramid of Khufu or the Pyramid of Cheops , ancient Egyptian Pyramid that is the largest of the three Pyramids of Giza. It was built to honor Khufu , the second king of Egypt’s 4th dynasty , and was completed about 2560 BC.
The Great Pyramid is the only one of the Seven Wonders of the World left standing today. As perhaps the largest single building ever constructed , it is a wonder mainly because of its scale and because of the incredible precision with which the work was executed. It is assumed to be the burial place of Khufu , but only an empty sarcophagus has been found inside. The Pyramid originally stood about 482 feet (147 m) high with four equal sides each measuring about 755 feet (230m).

The Great Pyramid of Giza , along with the other smaller pyramids and surviving relics of ancient Egypt , are located at Al Haram , Nazlet El-Semman , in the Al Giza Desert , about 35 minutes drive outside of Cairo. There are lots of easy ways to get to the pyramids , including driving yourself or buying dedicated Giza Pyramid tickets that include a guided tour and/or transport.

The Giza pyramid complex (also called the Giza necropolis) in Egypt is home to the Great Pyramid, the Pyramid of Khafrea nd the Pyramid of Menkaure, along with their associated pyramid complexes and the Great Sphinx. All were built during the 4th Dynasty of the Old Kingdom of ancient Egypt, between 2600 and 2500 BC. The site also includes several temples and cemeteries and the remains of a workers’ village.

The site is at the edges of the Western Desert, approximately 9 kilometres  west of the Nile River in the city of Giza, and about 13 kilometres (8 mi) southwest of the city centre of Cairo. It forms the northernmost part of the 16,000-hectare (40,000-acre) Pyramid Fields of the Memphis and its Necropolis UNESCO World Heritage Site, inscribed in 1979. The pyramid fields include the Abu Sir , Saqarra and Dahshur pyramid complexes, that were all built in the vicinity of Egypt’s ancient capital of Memphis.
